1964
Business languages are upgraded with a master degree
In 1964, Professor and former rector Poul Winding tries to exclude the language programmes from Handelshøjskolen.
As part of the study reform, Poul Winding tries to exclude the language programmes from Handelshøjskolen. He is supported by a large majority of the lecturers in economics and business administration.
However, the language lecturers, with the support of newly appointed Rector Jan Kobbernagel, are struggling to maintain business languages as a part of Handelshøjskolen’s research and education.
After lengthy discussions, the language programmes are rescued by an almost unanimous Teaching Council – the precursor to Handelshøjskolen’s Senate (Konsistorium) in October 1964. A reform of the language programmes is implemented from 1966, including the launch of a language master programme with a Master of Arts degree (cand.ling.merc.). Three language professors are appointed.
